The Flavia coffee maker was suggested to us by a friend when he learned that we were thinking about investing in one of those single cup coffee machines, you know the ones that make coffee, tea, cappuccinos and ht chocolates. And I use the term "investing" because if you have shopped recently for a single serve coffee maker you know how pricey they can be.
I did numerous searches online and then I visited the local department stores to obtain an education on the different single cup coffee makers from sales people who not only sell them, but handle all the returns as well.
Comparing the Keurig coffee maker, the Tassimo and the Flavia (which seemed to be the ones most recommended) I found these coffee machines varied by little other than:
The size of the water tank
Where to buy the coffee
The taste of the coffee
I was not to concerned about the first item, the water tank capacity, because the basic models of all of the single serve coffee makers seem to hold enough water in the reservoirs to accommodate enough drinks for the two of us on any given day.
Of these 3 different single serve pod coffee and beverage makers, only the machines that used a Keurig type of coffee pod were readily available in local stores such as Bed Bath & Beyond.
Purchasing the coffee was a real concern, until I realized that ordering online is really the most efficient and convenient way to insure that we don't run out of our favorite coffee. Besides, online ordering is not only easy, but you usually can get better pricing and a larger selection of flavors, too.
That left taste (really the most important variance) as the deciding factor in choosing one brand of single cup coffee makers over another.
Like you, I began to notice coffee makers everywhere I went... at the bank, the lube shop when I got an oil change, at the storage facility. I began to ask for samples, and was delighted at the responses I received along with the coffee. Everyone has an opinion!
Personally, I thought the Falvia out-shined the others in both taste and ease of use. I prefer a bolder (not bitter) tasting coffee.
How to choose a Flavia Coffee Maker
Luckily for us, Flavia keeps things simple. Other than the office coffee machines they make, there are only 2 different models of the home style Flavia coffee machine. The difference between the two is minimal, but the price is not.
Their deluxe model boasts a larger water reservoir, which would be great if you entertained much. Also, the Flavia fusion deluxe has blue led lights... which would be wonderful if we ever brewed in the dark.
So, really, the only deciding factor was to opt for the larger water tank (which we did) as a hedge for when our friends would drop in and want to sit and enjoy a freshly brewed cup with us.
Are we satisfied?
"Think fresh" is the Flavia motto. And they take the fact that only fresh coffee is truly good coffee very seriously, as we have found out.
I'm happy with the way it looks on the counter, and with the larger water reservoir, we have the flexibility to move it from kitchen to office to den... anytime.
